How to catch a Squirrel...

Finally, I think my vermin troubles are seeing an end. And with a relative amount of ease, afterall. Although, I am feeling rather guilty about this one.

Again, this is an on going issue. You can read more on The Morningstarr* here: -

So, how did I get this one so quick? Well, I've learned a thing or two after catching the last one - don't use bait! I kid you not. The last one was caught whilst the trap was empty, so I thought I'd give it a try again. The idea being that I've been baiting the trap for a week or two, the squirrel is now expecting to get fed and whilst it looks for the bait it slips up, trapping its furry ass.

Now I do feel rather guilty about this one. Let me explain. I baited the trap after we released the first on (Sunday before last). On Thursday we checked the trap and found the bait gone but no squirrel. At this point I thought I'd try it baitless, presuming that we'd hear it when it was caught, based on how noisy the first one was. How wrong could I be?

Last night at around eleven, Mrs D asked if I should re-bait the trap - as no bait didn't appear to be working. I agreed and climbed up into the lift... To find the trap full. The problem being, I'm not sure how longs it's been in there. It could have been there for four days, which would account for its less than nice mood.

There was also something distinctly different about this one. For starters it was a lot bigger. It seemed to attack the cage any chance it got. Because of this we decided this must be the daddy squirrel, Mr Nutkin - or as we are calling him, Terry Nutkin. There were some similarities to Terry Nutkins, namely the fantastic comb over the furry tail makes. So last night I had to take a trip out to the same place we released Nutkin, except this time it was midnight!!

Not good, driving into the middle of nowhere at midnight, wearing heavy duty gloves and pulling plastic bags out of the boot of your car. I was a bit scared we may get spotted, but it was deserted in the end.

So I'm officially vermin free for 21 hours. Go team!
